Inventors Dimitri Sensaud de Lavaud and Fernando Arens Jr., after inventing the centrifugation process at a workshop in Santos-SP in 1914, founded the COMPANHIA BRASILEIRA DE METALURGIA for the manufacture of tubes in the Moema district of São Paulo of cast iron through the centrifugation process patented in Rio de Janeiro as "Sensaud-Arens Process".

It is founded in Caeté-MG, by Baldomero Barbará and João Pinheiro, COMPANHIA MINEIRA DE METALURGIA having as technical director Fernando Arens Jr, co-inventor of the centrifugation process and still owner of COMPANHIA BRASILEIRA DE METALURGIA.

1932

Baldomero Barbará buys from Fernando Arens Jr. the COMPANHIA BRASILEIRA DE METALURGIA in São Paulo, where he takes Caeté machines. The merger of the two companies gives rise to BARBARÁ S.A. The name BARBARÁ that would become consecrated as an entry of important dictionaries as synonymous with the product, enters the history of Brazilian sanitation.

1937

Baldomero Barbará transforms the company BARBARÁ S.A. into COMPANHIA METALÚRGICA BARBARÁ. The Barra Mansa Metallurgical Plant is inaugurated in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In Caeté that had housed the Mining Company of Metallurgy, the COMPANHIA FERRO BRASILEIRO was created by the French company PONT-A-MOUSSON.

1951

PONT-À-MOUSSON, founded in 1856 in the Lorraine steel region in France, and the world leader in the production and sale of cast iron pipes, now controls COMPANHIA METALÚRGICA BARBARÁ.

1956

Juscelino Kubitschek, President of Brazil, inaugurates the 2nd Blast Furnace of COMPANHIA METALÚRGICA BARBARÁ in the Barra Mansa Plant, and the Elastic Board is launched, replacing the Junta de Chumbo.

Decade of 60

1960

1960

COMPANHIA METALÚRGICA BARBARÁ, starts using the inner lining with blast furnace cement and using ductile iron, historical landmarks in the evolution of cast iron pipes.

Decade of 70

1970

1970

A historic merger takes place in France: Saint-Gobain, the French leader in the glass industry since 1665 and present in Brazil since 1937, joins Pont-à-Mousson, the world leader in cast iron pipes since 1856, giving the so-called COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN.

1974

The machine for centrifuging tubes up to 1,200mm in diameter and 7m in length is inaugurated, a significant milestone for the solution of the challenges of water supply and distribution in a developing country and strong urbanization.

Decade of 80

1981

1981

BARBARÁ's exporting vocation is consolidated with two major export contracts:

  • 40,000 tons, 220 km in DNs 700, 600 and 500, for the CALAMA-ANTOFAGASTA Adductor, in Chile, in the year 1980; and
  • 72,000 tonnes of various DNs of up to 1200 for the cities of MOSUL, KIRKUK, BASRAH and NAJAF-KUFA in Iraq in 1986.

1991

The plating process begins, ensuring better performance when installed in aggressive media and the pioneer JE elastic gasket, leaves the scenario replaced by the modern and more effective JGS gasket.

1994

COMPANHIA METALÚRGICA BARBARÁ has its quality assurance system in accordance with ISO 9002 and is accredited by Bureau Veritas Quality International.

1998

Acquisition of Fundição Aldebarã Ltda., Located in the municipality of Itaúna-MG.

2000

2000

Companhia Metalúrgica Barbará, now more than 60 years old, is renamed Saint-Gobain Canalização and the products marketed receive the PAM worldwide brand, characteristic of all other companies in the Saint-Gobain Group's plumbing division.

2010

2010

In order to establish uniformity in its communication and highlight values linked to energy efficiency and the environment, the Saint-Gobain Group establishes a new visual identity for the group's main brands.
