  • What is the preferred direction of fitting the tube bags?

    Saint-Gobain Plumbing does not define a preferred mounting direction for JE2GS-type pouches because it will not cause any damage to the product. This is due to the internal pressure acting in an equivalent way in any direction. Normally this definition is at the discretion of the designer who, in addition to knowing all the details of the project, seeks to minimize the interference and constant changes of direction.

    However, for assembling sloping pipes, it is important to ensure the stability of the pipe and the friction of the pipe with the ground. Therefore, Saint-Gobain Plumbing recommends that the tube pockets be oriented upwards, which will allow a better anchorage of the assembly.

    There are also two other special cases for laying pipes on slopes:

    1º Case: When the slope exceeds 20% in an aerial assembly

    • We recommend the use of concrete bollards positioned behind each tube bag with JE2GS gaskets, with tie collars (cable ties). The pockets should be oriented upwards in order to favor the support on the pillars.
    • We recommend the construction of the anchor block at the base (headland) of the slope.
    • For the use of External Locking Joint (JTE) and Internal Locking Joint (JTI) joints, the construction of the anchor block at the base of the slope is not required, unless recommended by the designer.


    2º Case: When the slope exceeds 25% for a buried assembly

    • We recommend that the tube bags are oriented upwards in order to favor soil friction;
    • We recommend the construction of the anchor block at the base (headland) of the slope;
    • For the use of External Locking Joint (JTE) and Internal Locking Joint (JTI) joints, the construction of the anchor block at the base of the slope is not required, unless recommended by the designer.

  • Is it possible to interconnect ductile iron with other materials?

    Yes, the interconnection can be done through the Ultraquick and Ultralink adapters or through direct connection with DEFoFo and PRFV PVC pipes with diameters equivalent to the diameters of cast iron pipes.

    The Ultralink sleeve allows attaching two ends of the tubing. The design of the high tolerance joint allows the union of pipes with external diameters or different materials. Here are some features of this product:

    - Union of tips with different diameters;

    - DNs 50 to 300mm;

    - Permissible angular deflection at the seat (union) = 2 °;

    - Internal and external painting with epoxy;

    - Union of pipes made of gray cast iron, ductile iron, steel, PVC, fiber cement, among others.

    The Ultraquick flange adapter allows attachment of the flange of any equipment to the tip of another material and accepts a range of external diameters from the following materials:

    - Pipes made of gray cast iron, ductile iron, steel, PVC and fiber cement.

    - DNs 50 to 300mm

  • What is the maximum permissible deflection of ductile cast iron pipes and fittings with bag?

  • What is the recommendation of Saint-Gobain Plumbing for fixing the pipes on the bollards?

    For mounting on the bollards, consider using a munck truck compatible with the weight of the tubes. The dimensions and quantities of abutments will be defined by the designer according to the technical characteristics of the project, but we highlight some important information below:

    • One pilare per tube or for each free span;
    • Support cradle (a = 120 °) with rubber blanket protection (4.0mm);
    • Clamp with rubber blanket protection (4.0mm);
    • Anchoring of elements subjected to hydraulic thrust.

    The table below demonstrates the composition of the free spans allowed for tip and bag tubes with JE2GS Standard elastic joint and also the internal locked joints - JTI and external JTE.

  • What is the recommendation of Saint-Gobain Plumbing for the weld bead of the External Locking Joint (JTE)?

    There are two situations where it is necessary to apply the weld bead:

    • When the supplied tube has the original factory weld bead and is reduced in length for mounting adjustments and with that the weld bead is cut off in the cut;
    • When the client has the Standard K7 or K9 tube and use it for the JTE assembly. In this case, the thickness and pressure dimensions specified in the standard must be respected.


    Equipment and materials required:

    • Welding machine with accessories and minimum amperage of 150 A;
    • Safety equipment;
    • Pneumatic or electric manual grinding machine;
    • FeNi electrodes (minimum 60% Ni)
    • Copper guide ring for the execution of the weld bead (dimension according to Nominal Diameter - DN).


    Surface preparation:

    • Draw a reference line for making the weld bead according to the DN of the tube.
    • Thoroughly grind the surface of the tube without compromising the thickness of the metal, with a width of ± 40.0 mm where the weld bead will be made.
    • Position the guide ring on the ground surface of the tube and tighten it.

    • The weld tank should be pressed against the copper guide ring at a 40 ° angle.


    Finishing:

    • After making the weld bead, remove the guide ring and use the steel brush to clean the surface thoroughly.
    • Apply one coat of zinc rich paint over the weld bead and then one coat of bituminous paint and / or epoxy to finish.
